Chikara, (also Ryoku, Riki, Ri)
A-[Original Meaning] muscular power, physical strength,
force might
B-military power, armed force
C-(power in general) power to influence.
When used in compounds with other kanji (characters), the chikara
character takes on several meanings:
jinryoku : human power [strength];
kinryoku: muscular strength;
tairyoku : physical strength, strength of one's body;
zenryoku de : with all one's might, the the best of one's ability;
goninriki ga aru : have the strength of five men;
heiryoku : military force; strength of an army;
shuryoku : main force, main body;
hakuryoku : power, force, punch, appeal;
jitsuryoku : real ability [power], capability, competence;
rikairyoku : comprehensive, power to understand;
senryoku : fighting power;
gakuryoku : scholarship, scholastic ability;
kiryoku : energy, spirit, vitality, pluck, guts;
chikarazukeru : encourage, cheer up, support;
chikara o tsukusu : make efforts, exert oneself;
katsuryoku : vital power [force], vitality, energy;
kyoryoku suru : cooperate, collaborate, work together;
chikaramochi : man of great strength;
bakajikara : great physical power, animal strength;
chikara-kankei : power relationship;
