Bow In/Out Meanings.

  • Sei Retsu - Class line up - higher ranking students to the right (pron: see-ret-soo)
  • Seiza - Kneel (pron: see-za)
  • Maku-so - Eyes closed meditation (pron: mock-so)
  • Maku-so Yame - Cease meditation - eyes open (pron: mock-so-yum-ay)
  • Mejin Ni Tashite Ni Rei - Bow to the Masters
  • Shomen Ni Taishite Ni Rei - Bow to the Shomen (Altar) (pron: show-mon-knee-ta-shee-knee-ray)
  • Sensei Ni Taishite Ni Rei - Bow to the teacher (pron: sen-say-knee-ta-shee-knee-ray)
  • At end of class when bowing to teacher, should say "Domo Arrigato Gaizema Sensei" - Thank you honorable teacher
  • The teacher will respond with "Onegai Shimasu" - Thank you for working out
  • Octagi Ni Rei - Bow to each other
  • Kiritsu - Stand up
  • Jumbi Undo Hajime - Class ready for warming up and working out
